MetalloBio Wins the Royal Society of Chemistry Emerging Technologies Competition 2022 - Health

On the 7th of July MetalloBio’s CEO, Dr. Kirsty Smitten, attended the Royal Society of Chemistry Emerging Technologies competition final. The final featured 23 finalists across four different categories: Enabling Technologies, Energy, Environment, and Health.

Kirsty represented MetalloBio in the Health category alongside Anavo Medical, Kimilays, Mesox Limited, and The University College London. The expert panel, featuring a representative from Eli Lilly and Reckitt Benckiser were impressed with MetalloBio’s technology, Kirsty’s pitch, and the multitude of applications for the platform.

MetalloBio won the Health Award resulting in an excellent award package:

  • A cash prize of £20,000

  • Assigned co-mentors

  • A business acceleration grant of up to £20,000 for UK-incorporated companies.

  • Wider support and advice from competition partners and judges.

Kirsty’s interview is available on youtube - Emerging Technologies Competition Health Winner - MetalloBio Ltd - YouTube.

Kirsty Smitten, CEO of MetalloBio, said: “I’m really happy and proud, I was the youngest person that pitched today, which can be quite intimidating. I came straight out of a Ph.D. into a start-up and I think coming to events like this, you meet like-minded people and it’s nice to be alongside people with the same challenges. Also, talking to the judging panel has been really helpful, they have given a lot of advice around where MetalloBio can go moving forward.”
